Here we are. Another Friday. Another sharing day. Personally, I love sharing day. It gives my kids a chance to use their expressive language. Ahhh, expressive language. So in comes Ray-Ray, with a HUGE helicopter in hand, beaming because its bigger than any other of my students sharing objects. Up he goes, to the front of the classroom, ready to share his helicopter, but because of his speech delays, he screams out..."Beverybody...listen! This is my cockdockter! I love my cockdockter! I play with it bevery day!"
What could I do but let out a snicker? These are the moments that make my job manageable.

- I have been teaching children with special needs for 5 years now. The first couple of years was with 12th grade students diaganosed with emotional disturbances. The past 3 years have been with kindergarten and first grade - non-categorical. (That means the student can have any disability). I became a special educator because I felt "the calling" when I was in Junior High. I would spend my free time helping the special ed. teacher there, volunteering in her classroom. From then on, I have worked with children with special needs in one way or another. To me, they have a special quality and knowledge that the general population doesn't have. I end up learning just as much from them as they do from me.

Hello, this is a really nice blog. Being a mom and a teacher of special needs children I so agree with you that laughter is the key to get through it! Thanks for providing a fun place to visit.
I too agree that this job needs lots of laughter, what else are you going to do, get frustrated?
